After Albert Heijn ’s distribution centers resumed operations on Wednesday, the retailer has resumed regular deliveries of both non-perishable and fresh products. At Delhaize, the alternative system remains in place.
“Restoring full service”
“Regular deliveries of both non-perishable and fresh products to our stores have fully resumed nationwide,” Albert Heijn reported in an update on Thursday. The distribution centers were restarted yesterday. “As a result, the shelves in our stores across the country are gradually filling up, and customers are once again getting the selection they’ve come to expect from us. Product availability may still vary by store, but will continue to improve throughout the day, returning to normal levels. Now that regular deliveries to stores have resumed, we are focusing on carefully and safely restoring full service.”
However, the retailer’s app and website are still offline. As a result, competitors such as Jumbo, Picnic, and Crisp are seeing a surge in new customers. The websites of the group’s U.S. chains are also still down. In Belgium, Delhaize’s website, online store, and app have continued to function, but the ordering system for the stores has not yet been restored. As a result, the supermarkets are being supplied via an alternative system based on previous orders. That situation had not changed as of Thursday, spokesperson Roel Dekelver confirmed to RetailDetail.
