Costco closed the first quarter of its new fiscal year, which ended on 23 November, with sales of 65.978 billion dollars (56.3 billion euros). This represents an increase of 8.2 % compared to the same period last year. Profits even rose by double digits.
Strong in Canada and online
On a comparable basis, the US-based wholesaler’s sales grew by 6.4 %. The company performed particularly well in Canada (+ 9 %). Sales in other international markets rose by 6.8 %, while US growth was 5.9 %. Online sales growth was even higher, at 20.5 %.
Costco also made progress in terms of profit, with net profit rising 11.3 % to 2.001 billion dollars (1.7 billion euros).
Costco currently operates 923 stores, 633 of which are in the United States and 114 in Canada. Smaller markets for the company are – in descending order of number of stores – Mexico (42), Japan (37), the United Kingdom (29), South Korea (20), Australia (15), Taiwan (14), China (7), Spain (5), France (3), Sweden (2), Iceland (1), and New Zealand (1).
