Collect&Go is expanding its grocery delivery service to 74 additional municipalities in the Belgian provinces of Antwerp, Limburg and Walloon Brabant. With this expansion, Colruyt Group boasts to have the “widest network” in Belgium.
Private deliverers
Collect&Go started as a click & collect service for online orders, but decided to start home deliveries in 2020. That delivery service has grown to serve 60 % of Belgian households, the retailer says. With the expansion to 74 additional municipalities in Antwerp, Limburg and Walloon Brabant, the service now operates in 435 of the 565 municipalities in Belgium. The service will still be expanded further in the coming months.
Collect&Go delivers to homes with private delivery drivers, who deliver groceries in their neighbourhood within a 15-minute drive from the collection point. “Collect&Go thus encourages human neighbourhood contact, as the Drivers expand their local social network and help people in the neighbourhood”, manager Tom De Prater says. More than 5,000 Drivers are currently active throughout Belgium.
Increased competition
“By combining home delivery to 60 % of Belgian households with our 246 pick-up points, Collect&Go offers the widest network”, De Prater claims. Customers pay 5.95 euros in preparation costs and a home delivery contribution of 7 euros, which goes entirely to the Driver. However, promotional offers make it possible to drop either of those.
Competition for online groceries has intensified on the Belgian food market in recent months. Delhaize has recently opened a new e-commerce distribution centre and made its click & collect service free, with the ambition of becoming the market leader in the collection of groceries ordered online. The retailer says it is already the market leader in delivery.
