Swiss-Belgian chocolate giant Barry Callebaut is exploring a possible spin-off of its global cocoa division. The company wants to reduce its exposure to volatile cocoa prices, given the exceptional fluctuations in the cocoa market in recent years.
Less sensitive to shocks
Discussions are at an early stage, but three sources have told Reuters news agency that the chocolate giant is reviewing its business model. According to the sources, one of the options being considered is a spin-off of the cocoa division, followed by the subsequent sale of a minority stake. Other options on the table include a joint venture, a merger with another player, or even a complete sale.
