Why major fashion brands knowingly allow counterfeiting into the EU

Well-known fashion brands such as Nike and Adidas deliberately allow counterfeit versions of their own products on the European market, as they refuse to bear the cost of destroying or recycling the clothing.

Counterfeiting – mainly from China – is a pressing problem for the fashion industry. Cheap copies of well-known fashion and luxury brands threaten not only the reputation and revenue of producers, but also the safety and health of consumers. However, many fashion brands are now found to be allowing counterfeit goods that were intercepted by customs to enter the market. This was revealed by consumer program ‘WinWin’ on Belgian radio station VRT 1.
