Carrefour France looks for 7,000 new employees in 2014

A
million résumés a year

With
a total of 106,000 employees, Carrefour France is one of France’s
largest privately-owned enterprises, and it will be looking for
another 6,000 people
by the end of the year and an additional 7,000
new workers for 2014.

“We’re
increasing our recruitment efforts, because we want to get more
people at the tills, walking the aisles and manning the information
booths
. That way we can better serve our customers at Carrefour”,
is how Isabelle Calvez, director of Human Resources, explained the
high number of recruitments to Le Figaro.

After
a few years in turmoil, Carrefour claims the French public again has
an increased interest in its vacancies, for management positions and
others. Calvez has revealed that Carrefour receives more than one
million résumés a year, which are in turn tackled by a team of 60
employees.

Fast
food is recruiting en masse

The
134 French companies who answered the survey plan to recruit a total
of 206,800 full-time equivalents
(FTE’s) for 2014. On top of that,
2013 will end with more recruitments than expected: 209,122 compared
to the companies’ estimates of 170,000 one year ago. At last a
positive note for an ailing French economy, which lost 140,000
full-time jobs over the past year, as stated by official numbers.

Fast
food chain McDonald’s remains the largest recruiter for the fifth
year running
, although it uses mostly part-time employees. When
converted to FTE’s, it remains an impressive number, reaching some
28,000 employees.

The
huge number is not only explained by the traditionally high attrition
rate of personnel
in this sector, but also because of ambitious plans
of expansion: McDonald’s wants to open up an additional fifty
restaurants in France next year.  However,
it is not the only fast food chain looking for personnel: Quick and
Kentucky Fried Chicken are also hiring massive numbers, 8,000 and
4,000 respectively. This results in a top 10 finish for companies
with the highest recruitment drive next year.
