French sports chain Decathlon has opened a store of 4300 sqm in Emeryville, near San Francisco: for the French retailer this is a return to the United States after twelve years of absence.
No cash desks
The shop uses the NewStore Omnichannel Platform, enabling employees to easily scan all items and allows customers the possibility of mobile payment. They no longer have to line up at cash desks, because everything is paid via Apple Pay.
Decathlon used to operate several stores near Boston between 1999 and 2006. After more than ten years, the chain is returning to the United States - but this time on the West Coast. The company has plans to open branches in other regions as well.
Decathlon currently has more than 1500 branches in 49 countries, after opening a first store in Japan earlier this month. The sports giant has a huge assortment and also offers space for younger customers and for sports such as archery or ping-pong. The shops often feature a test area where clients can try out the products.
