Casino, the French group behind seven neighborhood store chains, is now called PLESIO (Greek for “proximity”). The company aims to position itself more strongly as a specialist in proximity and to create a clear distinction between the group and the Casino chain.
Seven retail brands
The new name reflects the group’s current strategy, which—after years of financial difficulties— involved selling its hypermarkets and supermarkets to focus on the neighborhood store segment. The new name PLESIO (simple, short, and easy to remember, according to the group) encompasses seven retail brands: Monoprix, Casino, Spar, Vival, Cdiscount, Franprix, and Naturalia. With 25,000 employees and nearly 6,500 stores, these brands are projected to generate 12.5 billion euros in revenue by 2025.
The new identity will be gradually implemented across all of the group’s internal and external communications, and the change to the registered company name will be submitted to the shareholders for formal approval at the next General Meeting in 2027.
