On Wednesday morning, Albert Heijn opened its 89th Belgian store in Bilzen, the 15th in the province of Limburg. For franchisee Peeters-Govers, this is the 19th store. Two more store openings are scheduled for this year.
“Strong region”
With 1,700 m² of retail space, Albert Heijn Bilzen-Hoeselt is a fairly spacious supermarket, equipped with 12 checkout lanes, including 9 self-checkout lanes and 3 conveyor-belt checkout lanes. Long lines of interested shoppers formed at the opening. With Carrefour Market, Aldi, Lidl, and Jumbo stores also located in the immediate vicinity, the market area is already well-served by supermarkets.
“Limburg is a strong region for Albert Heijn Belgium, where we’re always welcomed with open arms and tremendous enthusiasm,” says Raf Van den Heuvel, General Manager of Albert Heijn Belgium. “We’re incredibly happy about that. And at the same time, we see that Limburg could certainly use a little more Albert Heijn blue. With Bilzen-Hoeselt, we’re taking another great step forward and getting even closer to our customers in the region.”
For Albert Heijn Belgium, this is the 89th store, and for franchisee Peeters-Govers, it is the 19th. An Albert Heijn XL will open in Machelen within two weeks, followed by another supermarket in Lommel in December. The retailer will thus end the year with 91 stores in Belgium.
