Kingfisher has found a successor for Thierry Garnier, who is leaving to join Ahold Delhaize. The group behind B&Q and Screwfix in the United Kingdom and Castorama and Brico Depot in France is bringing in OBI CEO Sebastian Gundel as its new top executive.
Experienced executive
Kingfisher has appointed Gundel, a German national, as Chief Executive Officer effective February 1, 2027; he will also join the board of directors on that same day. Thierry Garnier will remain in his position until December 31, at which point he will step down as CEO and director. CFO Bhavesh Mistry will temporarily assume the role of CEO in January.
The new CEO brings more than twenty years of leadership experience from the home improvement sector. At the European retailer OBI, he led the transition from a traditional retail organization to a customer-centric omnichannel model as CEO. Prior to that, he served as Chief Customer & Digital Officer there. OBI has begun the search for a successor.
