ASOS confirms that hackers exploited the fashion retailer’s app for a public extortion attempt, a rare tactic in cyberattacks. The online clothing retailer says basic data may have been accessed, but sees no impact on payment card information or passwords at this time.
Customers worry
ASOS is investigating a cyberattack on external platforms after hackers sent a notification via the app on Tuesday morning. In that push notification, the attackers addressed the retailer’s data protection officer and IT teams directly. ASOS says that some basic customer data may have been accessed, but that, according to the company, payment card information and account passwords were not compromised.
