The first pile for the new distribution center for the Bol online store in Lelystad will be driven into the ground today. With this location, Ahold Delhaize’s e-commerce platform aims to prepare for further volume growth.
100,000 packages per day
The new distribution center on Charles Lindberglaan in Lelystad will cover an area of approximately 60,000 m² and is being developed by Intospace. Logistics service provider GXO Logistics will be responsible for the technical design and day-to-day operations, the retailer announced in a press release.
The distribution center is scheduled to begin operations in 2028. At full capacity, it is expected to process over 100,000 packages per day, with approximately 550 employees in operational and office roles.
Minimizing CO2 emissions
“With the expansion in Lelystad, we are preparing our logistics network for further growth. By partnering with GXO Logistics, we are adding capacity and will be able to continue offering customers and retail partners the service they have come to expect from Bol,” says Rogier van Drooge, Director of Logistics.
The new distribution center in Lelystad is designed to consume as little energy as possible and minimize operational CO2 emissions. Smart packing machines create boxes that are precisely sized. Items are also shipped without an outer box whenever possible. This helps save on packaging materials and allows shipments to be processed even more efficiently.
