Return fraud: one in three does it, almost all get away with it

More than a third of consumers say they sometimes take advantage of return policies. British shoppers (37%) are particularly prone to doing so, while a quarter of Germans have already obtained refunds for packages they weren’t entitled to—or are considering doing so. In fact, 98% of those who try say they get away with it.

Online stores are vulnerable

Wearing an outfit once to a party and then sending it back? Returning a broken or counterfeit product instead of the new item you received? Or falsely reporting that an order didn’t arrive to get a replacement or refund? European consumers know full well that this isn’t allowed, yet 27% openly admit to taking advantage of the refund rules.
