IKEA is raising its ambitions in India: the home furnishings chain will invest more than 200 billion rupees (approximately 2.22 billion euros) over the next five years to expand there. The retailer will open new stores, increase local purchasing, and roll out online sales more quickly.
Quadrupling turnover
IKEA launched in India in 2018 with its first store in Hyderabad. The retailer now has six stores, with three in Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru, and two smaller city stores in Mumbai and New Delhi. “India is not yet a big IKEA country… But there is a strong belief in India that it will be one of our top markets,” Patrik Antoni, CEO of IKEA India, told Reuters. Sales in India rose 6% to 18.61 billion rupees (approximately 207 million euros) in the fiscal year ending August 2025. IKEA wants to quadruple those sales and increase the number of stores to thirty.
