Action opens first store in Romania

Action

Action opened its first store in Romania on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The Dutch non-food discounter is thus launching in a market dominated by rivals Pepco and Kik.

“The first step”

Romania is the fourteenth market for the retailer, which plans to open 370 new stores across Europe this year, or more than one store a day. That competitors like Poland’s Pepco and Germany’s Kik are strong in hat country does not seem to be an objection for the fast-growing Dutch chain.

“We are very excited about the opening of our very first Action store in Romania today,” said CEO Hajir Hajji. “The opening in Pitești marks the beginning of our journey in Romania, and it is just the first step in making the Action experience available to many more Romanian communities in the coming years.”

In the coming weeks and months, the discounter plans to open additional stores in cities such as Arad, Oradea, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Bragadiru, Râmnicu Vâlcea and Hunedoara. In late August, the company also signed an agreement with real estate developer WDP to build a distribution center in the country. That would become operational in 2027.

All European online stores must have a “cancel order” button, starting today

Starting June 19, 2026, all online stores in the European Union must include a clear cancellation feature in their app or on their website. The goal is to make it just as easy for consumers to cancel online purchases as it is to make them—with no more than three clicks.
