British retailer Sainsbury’s and Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com have held talks about a possible takeover of retail chain Argos, but less than 24 hours later the negotiations have already collapsed. However, it is now clear that JD.com is targeting European retailers.
No longer interesting
Despite the impending acquisition of Media Markt and Saturn, JD.com’s hunger for acquisitions apparently is not yet satisfied. This weekend, British supermarket group Sainsbury’s confirmed that it held negotiations to sell omnichannel retailer Argos, aiming to accelerate the latter’s transformation.
