A few weeks before the opening of its first Romanian store, non-food discounter Action has signed an agreement with property developer WDP for the construction of a new distribution centre in the country.
“Crucial role”
Last Wednesday, Joost Uwents, CEO of WDP, and Hajir Hajji, CEO of Action, officially signed the contract for the construction of a brand-new distribution centre in Romania, which will be built to the highest sustainability standards, with the aim of achieving BREEAM Outstanding certification.
“The new Distribution Center near Bucharest – set to become operational in 2027 – will play a vital role in supporting our expected growth and bringing the Action formula to even more Romanian customers in the years to come,” the retailer announced on LinkedIn.
On Wednesday 24 September, Action will open its very first store in Romania, in the city of Pitești. The country will be the fourteenth market for the chain, which plans to open no fewer than 370 new stores across Europe this year – more than one per day.
Want to know more about Action’s unique positioning? On 25 September, regional country director Bart Raeymaekers will speak at RetailDetail’s Retail Marketing Day in Antwerp. He will debunk many preconceptions about discounters. Other retailers, such as Carrefour, Takko Fashion and Primark, will also explain their marketing strategies.
