Delivery platform Deliveroo managed to raise its revenue and order numbers by 8 % in the first half of 2025, but last year’s profit plunged below zero again. The company blames the upcoming acquisition by DoorDash.
More and bigger orders
In the first six months of the year, Deliveroo reported a net loss of 19.2 million pounds (22 million euros), down from a profit of 1.3 million pounds in the same period last year. The company attributed that worsened result to exceptional legal costs for the acquisition by DoorDash: without that expensive advice, Deliveroo says it would have made a profit.
Sales did rise 8 % to one billion pounds (1.2 billion euros), while the number of orders also rose 8 % to 147 million. The average value per order was up 1 % to 25.8 pounds (30 euros). CEO and founder Will Shu remains positive, stating consumer engagement is encouraging, with increasing order frequency and customer retention across all user groups.
In May, Deliveroo agreed to be acquired by DoorDash, valuing the company at 2.9 billion pounds (3.4 billion euros). The American grocery and meal delivery company is already the market leader in the United States and operates in more than thirty countries. The acquisition gives DoorDash access to nine new markets, including France, Italy, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. According to Deliveroo, the acquisition process is proceeding as planned: completion is expected in the fourth quarter of this year.
