Facebook parent Meta has taken a minority stake in EssilorLuxottica, the producer of Ray-Ban and Oakley, with an investment of three billion euros. Meta is bracing for the battle with Apple and Google, who are aiming for a future where glasses become the new smartphones.

In exchange for the investment, Facebook’s parent company acquires just under 3% of the shares of the French-Italian eyewear giant, but Meta is reportedly already considering expanding its stake to about 5%, according to news agency Bloomberg.
