With the acquisition of industry peer Raida, Fietsen Wildiers becomes Belgium’s largest bicycle chain, with 35 stores. Despite this consolidation, the Belgian bicycle market remains fragmented.
“Scale is crucial”
Fietsen Wildiers, a retailer with around 20 bicycle shops in the north of the country, is taking over 12 branches from Raida, located around Brussels and in East and West Flanders, as well as three bicycle shops from Gaethofs in Limburg. This was reported by De Tijd. This will make the company larger than Bike Republic, Colruyt Group‘s bicycle shop chain, which has 32 stores. Lucien, the chain owned by mobility group D’Ieteren, has more than 20 stores.
