Too Good To Go also wants to tackle surplus in the non-food sector

Too Good To Go

Too Good To Go, the app that has been tackling food waste for ten years, is expanding its marketplace to include additional product categories, such as personal care, household products, and flowers. Waste isn’t limited to food, the company says.

Perfectly usable products

With this expansion, retailers can now also redistribute surplus items across five new categories: personal care, pet care, flowers and plants, nutrition and supplements, and household goods—initially focusing on cleaning and laundry products and home accessories. Waste doesn’t stop at food, and neither does Too Good To Go’s ambition, the company says in a press release.

In these new categories, excess inventory is determined not only by expiration dates but also by sales cycles and shifts in demand. When new packaging is introduced, the old packaging becomes difficult to sell. The product lineup may change, or the end of a season may render products no longer relevant. Too Good To Go connects these perfectly usable products with people who want them.

A world without waste

“Too Good To Go is built on making the invisible visible. Value exists all around us. Whether it is a meal, moisturiser, plant or pet product, our role is to help it find someone who can use it. Some products are simply too good to go,” says Mette Lykke, CEO of Too Good To Go.

“Too Good To Go started with food because we saw how absurd it was that something so valuable could become waste. Ten years later, it is clear that the same principle applies beyond food. Our vision is a world with no waste, and expanding the Marketplace lets us act on that vision across more of the products people use every day.”

Formula for success

In France, the platform already partners with Nivea, Neutrogena, Dove, Oral-B, Always, and Head & Shoulders; in Poland with Inglot and Auchan; in Italy with Decathlon; in Denmark and Sweden with Interflora; and in Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland with OBI. The available offerings vary by market and store.

Over the past decade, Too Good To Go has grown into a platform that connects 150 million registered users with 200,000 active partners. It has proven to be a winning formula: consumers can discover usable products at very attractive prices, retailers can reduce waste and monetize their surplus inventory, and in doing so, attract new customers as well.
