Galeries Lafayette heads to Luxembourg

French department store chain Galeries Lafayette will open its first Benelux store by the end of next year, when it opens a six-floor location in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg’s capital.

“A real added value”

Galeries Lafayette will be a part of the new Royal Hamillius project, located in the heart of Luxembourg. Out of a possible 16,000 sqm of floor space, Galeries Lafayette will occupy 9,000 sqm. Delhaize and Fnac will also occupy space in the project. “Galeries Lafayette is a real added value for the Royal Hamillius project and for retail in general. I am sure it will attract other stores to the inner city”, Luxembourg’s mayor, Lydie Polfer, said.

The department store chain’s board considers its Luxembourg store to be an important project. “This will be a leading location, with both French and international brands, both new and famous. We now have eighteen months to compile our product range, which has to promote French fashion and also meet the local consumers’ needs”, CEO Nicolas Houzé said.

Galeries Lafayette, founded in the late nineteenth century, currently has more than sixty stores. The majority is in France, but it also has locations in Germany and Morocco. Its Luxembourg store will be its eighth store abroad, but it aims to add another twenty in the next few years.
