Galeria once again in financial trouble

Barely two and a half years after its previous bankruptcy filing, Galeria has once again filed for insolvency. The German department store chain’s 83 stores will remain open for the time being.

For the fourth time in six years

Galeria has once again filed a petition with the Düsseldorf court to open bankruptcy proceedings. The 83 stores will remain open for the time being, the company told the German news agency dpa. For the approximately 12,000 remaining employees, however, the announcement comes as yet another shock. After all, this is the department store chain’s fourth bankruptcy filing within a six-year period, following those in 2020, 2022, and 2024.
