Farfetch owner Coupang “gives” customers one billion euros after data breach

Coupang is issuing 1.69 trillion South Korean won (one billion euros) in vouchers to compensate its customers after the massive data breach that came to light last month. However, the Farfetch owner is facing a lot of criticism because of the way it is dealing with the situation.

Controversy

The massive data breach went unnoticed for months, Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad reports. Reportedly, it was the work of a former employee who retained access to Coupang’s internal systems. Millions of customers saw their names, (email) addresses, phone numbers and order history leaked. The data breach was leaked last month and already cost CEO Park Dae-jun his job.
