Things are happening at the Blue Gate business park south of Antwerp: Albert Heijn, AB InBev, and Coolblue are opening distribution centers there, while Colruyt Professionals will open its tenth location on November 12.
Electric delivery vans
In recent years, companies such as DHL and Amazon have already opened distribution centers at Blue Gate, the business park in Petroleum Zuid where petroleum companies operated for decades. Now, a few more big names are joining them. Transport firm Cornelissen will use this location to deliver online orders for Albert Heijn directly to customers’ homes. By opening an additional depot, the retailer can reduce the number of kilometers traveled. For now, the company still uses diesel vehicles, but it will switch to electric delivery vans in the future, according to Gazet Van Antwerpen.
Coolblue has also opened a distribution center in the same building. The retailer uses electric delivery vans and cargo bikes for deliveries. AB InBev will supply restaurants, bars, and stores from this site. Finally, the business-to-business brand Colruyt Professionals is also opening a location there: its tenth in Belgium and fourth in Flanders. This follows shortly after the opening of a store on the former Makro site in Deurne, meaning that both the northern and southern outskirts of Antwerp are now covered.
