Unilever sells Bertolli to Enrico-Glasbest

Food5 January, 2021

Enrico-Glasbest acquires the European pasta sauce, pesto and mayonnaise business under the Bertolli brand from Unilever. Previously, the FMCG giant had already sold the Italian brand’s olive oil and margarine.

Ambition

Dutch company Enrico-Glasbest is a producer and supplier of Mediterranean specialities, mayonnaises and dressings. The company expects its turnover to increase from 30 million to approximately 50 million euro after the acquisition. “Bertolli as a brand fits seamlessly with the strategy and ambitions of Enrico-Glasbest: the company has grown strongly in recent years and is prepared for such a step forward”, says Managing Director Robin Heetkamp.

The new owner will not take over any personnel or production sites from Unilever. The Bertolli products will continue to be produced by existing producers. However, both parties have agreed on a transitional period of 6 months during which Unilever will continue to sell and operate Bertolli.

Bertolli is an authentic Italian brand with a history dating back to 1865. It was launched by Francesco and Caterina Bertolli, who at the time opened a delicatessen in Lucca, a city in Tuscany. They sold regional products such as olive oil, wine and cheese.
