Dutch online supermarket Picnic is swapping its current French partner Coopérative U for Intermarché. That decision follows the earlier replacement of Coopérative U by Intermarché (and others) in Picnic’s purchase alliance, Everest.
Scale
Picnic’s French hubs will soon be delivered from Intermarché’s distribution centres, French trade magazine LSA reports. That seems a logical consequence of the fact that Intermarché has become a member of the international retail alliance Everest in September last year. That buying organisation swapped the much smaller Coopérative U for Aura Retail, the alliance of French supermarket groups Auchan, Casino and Intermarché.
Intermarché is already the third retail partner for Picnic, which launched in northern France in 2021 with Cora by its side. That hypermarket chain has since been swallowed up by Carrefour. Picnic is aggressively expanding in the densely populated Ile-de-France region (around Paris). By the end of this year, the online supermarket aims to offer its home delivery service throughout the region, including the capital itself.
