Intermarché's parent company suffers turnover drop below 40 billion euro

Mousquetaires‘ turnover dropped from 40.1 billion euro to 39.7 billion euro in 2015, partly because of supermarket chain Intermarché‘s slower French growth.

Netto presents positive results

Turnover dropped 1 %, although it would have been a slight 0.9 % turnover increase if gasoline sales are excluded. The company’s industrial branch performed relatively well, as turnover grew 4 % to 4 billion euro, but the commercial division got hit more severely: turnover there dropped from 36.2 billion euro to 35.7 billion euro in 2015.

Supermarket chains Intermarché and Netto managed a joint 33.1 billion euro (25.5 billion euro excluding gasoline sales) in 2015, with Intermarché’s turnover increase at 0.7 % – significantly lower than in previous years (+1.7 % in 2014 and + 7.4 % in 2012). By the end of 2015, Intermarché had opened 17 additional supermarkets in France.

 

Netto was able to present better numbers, with a 1.9 % turnover growth, which gives the group a reason to celebrate the supermarket chain’s performance for the first time in years. The discount chain’s number of stores did continue to dwindle, from 340 in 2012 to 301 in 2015.
