Belgian burger chain Manhattn’s wants to grow from its current eleven branches to forty by 2029. An international expansion would need the help of with franchise partners in France and the Netherlands.
Tipping point
Manhattn’s was founded in 2014 by brothers Philippe and Jerome Vandermeulen, and claims to be different from other ‘premium’ burger chains by its New York-inspired approach and strong visual identity. The first two branches opened in Brussels, followed by cities such as Antwerp, Ghent and Leuven. The chain has also ventured outside of Belgium, with two branches in Paris – and a third is soon to be added there.
The burger chain expects to raise its turnover to twenty million euros this year, but its ambition is to grow to around forty locations by 2029, the founders told Belgian business newspaper De Tijd. “We are coming to a tipping point. We are ready to grow exponentially. If it works in Paris, it will also work in Lyon or Rotterdam.” That is why the chain will be looking for franchise partners in France and the Netherlands.
