Dairy giant Danone is investing 16.5 million euros in a new production line for Alpro in the northeast of France.
70,000 additional tonnes
The investment will make the factory in Issenheim, Alsace, the largest production site for Danone’s plant-based beverages in Europe, Just Food reports. The new production line will be operational by July next year. At the site, Danone produces various drinks based on soy, oats, rice, almonds, coconut and hazelnut.
According to Frédéric Lebas, head of the site, production capacity will increase by 70,000 tonnes per year. Eighty per cent of the soybeans needed are produced by local farmers, with whom Danone has established a partnership. “All partners are committed alongside Alpro to produce a 100 per cent French soybean while developing agricultural practices that respect natural resources and the environment”, said the dairy giant.
