Carrefour increases e-commerce capacity

With a new technology partner, Carrefour wants to take its e-commerce activities operationally to a higher level and improve the customer experience. The scoop is for Belgium, other countries will follow.

 

Delivery throughout Belgium

French retail group Carrefour has concluded an exclusive partnership with Canadian software specialist Food-X Technologies, which has developed technology for managing e-commerce in the food sector. In this way, the retailer aims to increase the productivity and profitability of its online activities, which are experiencing strong growth – and even more so since the corona crisis.
 

Carrefour Belgium will be the first country to implement the system. With the Food-X solution, the stores of the supermarket chain will be able to rely on the centralised preparation of online shop orders from a new distribution centre. This new warehouse will supply shops offering click & collect, but will also take care of home delivery, enabling Carrefour to serve the entire Belgian territory. In this way, the retailer wants to reach new customers.

 

Simple and sustainable

Not only the operations, but also the customer experience will improve thanks to this new solution, says Carrefour. Shoppers will have access to a larger product range, more complete orders – and more relevant alternatives when an item is missing. The quality of fresh produce will improve. Ordering will become easier and also more sustainable, thanks to reusable bins. By mid 2021, the solution will be fully integrated into Carrefour Belgium’s customer interface. In the meantime, the retailer will make every effort to continue serving customers using the current model.
 

After the pilot project in Belgium, Carrefour and Food-X want to extend the cooperation to other markets, not only in distribution centres but also in stores that have the necessary storage space to process e-commerce orders.
