In a challenging economic environment, Primark’s profitability is under pressure. Nevertheless, in the run-up to its spin-off from parent company AB Foods, the fashion retailer expects to continue growing thanks to investments in its product offering, marketing, and digitalization.
Building on what has worked well
In the fiscal year ending September 12, Primark reported a 2% increase in revenue to 9.8 billion pounds (11.75 billion euros). Store openings—both company-owned and franchise locations—contributed 5% to that growth. However, a “challenging business environment and macroeconomic headwinds” caused operating profit to decline by 12% to 1 billion pounds (1.2 billion euros). Investments in pricing strategy, marketing, and digital initiatives kept the operating profit margin at 10.2%.
