The British retailer JD Sports is seeing its revenue continue to decline and expects lower profits, primarily due to weak consumer confidence in the U.S. In Europe, however, the trend is improving. The retailer is focusing on a more diverse product offering and an omnichannel strategy.
Weak footwear sales
In the second quarter, JD Sports saw organic revenue decline by 1.3%, a worsening compared to the 0.1% decline in the first quarter. Like-store sales fell by 3.1%, also a deterioration compared to the 2.5% decline in the previous quarter. Footwear sales remained weak, while apparel and accessories performed well across all regions. Online sales rose by 2.6%. Foot traffic in stores was generally lower than last year, but conversion rates improved.
