The European textile and apparel sector considers the new 3-euro customs duty on low-cost imported packages to be insufficient. Euratex and French industry associations are calling for an additional processing fee of approximately 10 euros per package, ostensibly to cover the costs of inspections and market surveillance.

The European textile sector wants Brussels to take tougher action against the flood of cheap packages from ultra-fast-fashion platforms such as Shein and Temu. The sector welcomes the elimination of the import duty exemption for shipments under 150 euros and the temporary 3-euro customs duty, but calls these measures only a first step.
