Aldi to test same-day delivery in Switzerland

Food10 December, 2021

Aldi (Süd) is launching ‘express delivery’ in Switzerland: orders will get delivered on the same day, with a delivery charge. By offering this service, the discounter is gradually expanding its online offer.

Express deliveries from Aldi

Aldi customers living in Zurich can now enjoy express deliveries from the store: a new express delivery service ensures that orders placed before 11.30 a.m. get delivered on the same day. It is a local pilot project in cooperation with the delivery start-up Annanow and is primarily an extension of the existing online offer: until now, swiss customers could only order non-food items from the Aldi Liefert webshop and have them delivered. The new webshop offers a wide selection of the standard range.

“With our new delivery service, we have successfully linked a digital offer to our physical stores in a meaningful way”, Swiss Managing Director Jerome Meyer told Blick. However, express delivery is not free: for orders of a minimum of 50 Swiss francs (50 euros), delivery will be between 4.5 and 9.5 euros.

Aldi increasingly wants to put itself on the map as an all-round supermarket chain that can also compete online with the other big players. In the United Kingdom, for example, Aldi Süd is already working with Deliveroo for the delivery of small grocery orders.
