Aldi Nord opens new headquarters covering 10 hectares

Food10 March, 2022

Aldi Nord is moving into a new head office building: the German discounter has had a ten-hectare campus built in its home town of Essen.

Symbolising the ‘new’ Aldi

Today, Aldi officially opened its brand new Aldi North Campus in Essen-Kray, in the heart of the Ruhr area. The entirely new office complex covers ten hectares, roughly fourteen football pitches, and will welcome the first employees next month. They will not have to move far, as Aldi Nord was already based in Essen.

Nevertheless, it is a milestone in the company’s history, according to the retailer. The new working environment will be “ultra-modern and flexible”, because there is a lot of room “for cooperation and communication in new ways of working”. In this way, the campus symbolises, as it were, the transformation process of Aldi itself.

They also gave more attention to the ‘softer side’ of business: the campus houses a nursery, quiet zones in a park and sustainable features such as solar panels, geothermal heat and electric charging stations. The office building itself consists mainly of open space offices, co-working spaces and various communication hubs.
