Zalando ventures into make-up with physical store

Fashion web shop Zalando is to start selling beauty products in Germany and in order to better present those products, it will open a physical beauty store in Berlin. Last quarter, Zalando came close to a 30 % turnover growth.

“Logical next step”

The beauty products, from make-up to perfume and skin care products, will be available on Zalando starting in the spring of 2018. The web shop has chosen a broad product range with several price settings and it hopes the platform will become a one-stop-shop for fashion and lifestyle. Obviously, it also hopes the customers will want to finish up their new outfit with the required beauty products. Germany is the first market for this new line-up, but other countries will be added at a later date.

To make its new product range more tangible, it will open a “Beauty Concept Store” in Berlin, which will also be used to have new product launches and to organize workshops.

“Continue to capture more market share”

Zalando also continued its gradual growth: its preliminary third quarter turnover grew 27.5 to 29.5 %, reaching about 1.064 to 1.081 billion euro. Over the first three quarters, Zalando’s average growth reached 24 %.

“We will continue to move ahead with our growth strategy at full pace and we continue to capture more market share”, CEO Rubin Ritter said. “The step into the beauty market is the next logical step that reflects our customers’ wishes.”
