eBay makes 3D-printing possible through app

‘Customised’
smartphone covers or rings

Consumers
can use the app for iPhone, called eBay Exact, to have rings, smartphone covers
and jewellery printed in plastic, metal or wood fibre and have it delivered to
their homes.

In Europe
the company will work with French 3D-printer Sculpteo, in the US with MakerBot
and in Canada with Hot Pop Factory. When placing his order, the consumer can
immediately decide where he wants the product to be made.

The current
range of products is rather limited. At Sculpteo only eight products are
available. Prices range from 9 dollar (7 euro) for an iPhone cover to 350
dollar (269 euro) for a metal ring. Delivery time for the orders is two weeks.
