The Spanish fashion giant Inditex has won a trademark dispute with the Belgian fashion and cosmetics brand Zuri. According to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), Zuri’s logo bears too many similarities to that of Zara, and the Belgian brand risks capitalizing on the fashion chain’s international reputation.
Free-riding on reputation
Inditex, Zara’s parent company, filed an opposition in July 2025 against Zuri’s European trademark registration. The Spanish group argued that consumers might associate the two brands with one another, not only because of their names but especially due to the striking similarities between the logos. Zuri produces ethically made clothing in Kenya.
