Colruyt Group will soon offer self-checkout in 200 stores

Colruyt Group is accelerating the rollout of self-checkout registers. Currently, 150 Okay (City), Spar, and Bio-Planet stores are equipped with self-checkout. Another 51 stores will be added later this year.

More in 2027

Colruyt Group began the rollout in 2024 and has since installed 454 self-checkout lanes in 150 stores. The company plans to add another 51 stores by the end of 2026 and intends to continue the rollout in 2027. As a result, self-checkout is rapidly gaining a larger presence within the group’s store network, though for now it is limited to Okay, Okay City, Spar Colruyt Group, and Bio-Planet.

According to the retailer, customers with smaller shopping lists in particular enjoy using this format. However, customers can always opt for a traditional staffed checkout lane. Colruyt Group also remains committed to its own approach: the self-checkout zones have no exit gates and rely on customer trust. A staff member is always on hand in the zone to assist customers.
