[Analysis] Fashion makes way for beauty in the European e-commerce market

European online sales of fashion, beauty, and luxury goods continue to grow, but the balance of power is shifting. Beauty is outperforming fashion, while marketplaces and secondhand platforms are capturing an increasingly larger share of cross-border retail.

10% more cross-border

Last year, the 500 largest international online retailers and marketplaces in fashion, beauty, and luxury collectively generated online revenue of 120 billion euros. Of that amount, 79 billion euros came from cross-border sales—approximately two-thirds of the total. These figures are taken from the annual ranking by Cross-Border Commerce Europe.
