Primark is set to offer home delivery in the United Kingdom. The discount retailer is thus abandoning a long-standing policy: customers could order online, but had to pick up their purchases in-store. The change in strategy comes as the fashion chain breaks away from its parent company, Associated British Foods, and European sales come under pressure.
Click & Collect paved the way
Primark long resisted home delivery because its low retail prices were difficult to reconcile with the costs of e-commerce and logistics. The chain therefore opted for a store-driven model, supplemented by a website, stock checks, and later Click & Collect.
