Schwarz Gruppe, the parent company of Lidl and Kaufland, is allocating up to 5.6 billion euros for a new data center near Rostock. Following an 11-billion-euro investment in Lübbenau, the retail group is rapidly expanding its own European cloud and AI infrastructure.

Second billion-euro project

The German Schwarz Group is expanding its ambitions beyond traditional retail: by 2033, the group will invest up to 5.6 billion euros in a new data center in Dummerstorf, near the northern German port city of Rostock. By 2033, the complex will have a capacity of 240 megawatts, comparable to the average energy consumption of approximately 600,000 households. Schwarz is also reserving space to increase capacity to 1 gigawatt by 2045.
