For the first time in six years, Exki, the Belgian chain of healthy “fast casual” restaurants, returned to profitability last year, although profits remain very modest. The first few months of this year have been encouraging, and additional openings are planned.
Openings planned in Brussels and Paris
When presenting a completely new concept for the restaurant chain last December, newly appointed CEO Xavier Royaux had already promised that Exki would return to profitability, and now the recently published annual financial statements indeed show that, despite a decline in revenue (from 41.5 million to 37.8 million euros), a minimal net profit of 3,000 euros was still achieved, according to De Tijd. A year earlier, the net loss had been nearly 2.5 million euros.
