From Monday, February 16, all Colruyt stores and Collect&Go pick-up points in Belgium will be open from 8 a.m., which is half an hour earlier than before. Colruyt claims to be the first discounter to open its doors so early.
Closing times unchanged
From February 16, all Colruyt stores and Collect&Go pick-up points will be open from 8 a.m. By opening the stores half an hour earlier every day, the retailer says it wants to offer extra convenience to families with children, who can now do their weekly shopping before the working day starts, as well as to professional customers and resellers. Collect&Go’s home delivery service is also becoming more flexible: groceries can now also be delivered to your home in the morning and on Saturdays.
“We will be the first discounter to open our doors at 8 a.m.,” says Jo Willemyns, director of food retail at Colruyt Group. “Our closing times will remain unchanged: every day until 8 p.m., and on Fridays until 9 p.m. At Collect&Go, you can also pick up your groceries half an hour earlier. This way, we offer our customers even more convenience. Our store employees already prepare our stores and pick-up points at 6 or 7 a.m., so they will not have to start any earlier.”
Most Belgian supermarkets are already open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., although these hours may vary for independent stores. Aldi stores in Belgium are open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Lidl stores from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. (until 7 p.m. on Saturdays). This expansion of Colruyt’s opening hours may also be intended to compensate for the generalisation of Sunday opening among other competitors.
