“Online stores cannot enforce account creation”

Online stores are not allowed to require customers to create an account when making an online purchase: new guidelines from the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) limit this requirement to exceptional situations. Guest checkout is the preferred option.

Guest checkout most privacy-friendly

The EDPB states that an account is almost never necessary for one-time purchases or for tracking an order. Only specific cases, such as subscriptions or private member environments, can justify requiring to create an account.
