Aldi Spain will end 2025 with 496 supermarkets after adding 28 new stores during the year. The retailer is also expanding its logistics. More than 7.8 million Spanish households now shop at the discounter.

Growth in strategic regions

Aldi’s commercial space grew to almost 549,000 sqm, which is more than 50 % more than in 2020. The roll-out focused on key regions: Andalusia and Catalonia accounted for the largest share, with seven and six openings respectively. The Madrid region gained five additional stores. Additionally, the Basque Country, Galicia, the Valencia region and the Balearic Islands each gained two stores; Aragon, Cantabria and the Canary Islands each gained one.

The growth is noticeable at the checkouts: with 400,000 extra shoppers, the supermarket chain is said to be the fastest growing in Spain in terms of customer numbers. More than 7.8 million Spanish households are now said to shop at the discounter, with more than four in ten households even doing their weekly shopping at Aldi.

To continue to support this growth, Aldi is expanding its logistics network. For example, the site in Pinto (Madrid) has just been expanded by more than a quarter. The chain also has distribution centres in the regions of Alicante, Barcelona, Burgos, Seville, Valencia and on the island of Gran Canaria.
