Eight European countries, led by France, are calling on the European Commission and member states to take stronger action against fast-fashion platforms from third countries, such as Alibaba, Shein and Temu.
Measures and sanctions demanded
“We call on the Commission to mobilise strongly and relentlessly on the issue of unfair competition from third-country e-commerce platforms”, the signatories state. The countries involved are Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Poland and Spain. They warn of systemic risks and want to step up collective action, they wrote in a letter to the Commission.
