New Princes has finalised its acquisition of Carrefour Italia this week. The new owner sees great potential: the stores will be converted to the old Italian supermarket brand GS, with more space for the food group’s own brands.
Back to a familiar name
Carrefour’s Italian branch found a surprising buyer in New Princes: the second-largest company in the Italian food industry after Ferrero, with a turnover of around seven billion euros, had not been involved in any retail activities until now. Suddenly, that group manages a retail park of more than 1,000 stores, which last year generated a turnover of 3.7 billion euros.
