After more than ten years at the helm, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon is retiring. The retailer has already named a successor: John Furner, the company’s current CEO in the United States.
30 years of experience
On February 1, 2026, 51-year-old Furner will become the new president and CEO of Walmart Inc., the company announced in a press release. Current CEO McMillon will retire on January 31, but will remain a member of the board of directors until the next annual shareholders’ meeting to help ensure a smooth transition.
The future CEO has worked for the company for more than 30 years in various management positions and has been at the helm of Walmart U.S. for six years, which, with more than 4,600 stores, is the retail giant’s largest business segment. Before the end of the 2026 fiscal year, the retailer will announce Furner’s successor as CEO of Walmart U.S.
